When a gig is created, there are two different modes it can be in:
Auto-pilot ON (aka auto-select): the client allows our system to select the best Gigwalker for the job, based on several factors, including the Gigwalker's history, their distance from the gig, and the length of time they select in their application. Our system does not automatically grant the gigs to the first applicant. When you apply for these types of gigs, you have to select a timeframe from a few options to indicate how quickly you will be able to complete the gig. The timeframe you select when you apply determines the countdown timer that you will have on the gig. You should hear back on your application in about an hour. If you're in the Customer's Group (aka Elite Workforce), then you can be instantly approved for these gigs, rather than waiting for the system to choose between you and other applicants.
(NOTE: applying from more than ~50 miles away will ensure you do NOT get approved. Please wait until you're closer to a gig before applying for it.)
Auto-pilot OFF (aka manual-select): the client wants to manually select which Gigwalker will complete the work. When you apply for these types of gigs, you need to enter a short application message (140 characters or less) indicating why you would be a good choice for the job. See “Tips & Tricks for crafting a great application” for more information on how to write an application message. When you’re satisfied with your application, check the “I understand that if I am approved, I am obligated to do this Gig’s work” box and tap “Apply Now.” In this case, the client will manually select a worker, which may take some time. Being in the Customer Group does not grant you instant access to these gigs.
On manual-select gigs, if someone else is selected, your application will still say "In Review" until the work has been completed, as there is still a chance that the other Gigwalker will not complete the job and your application will be active again. Once it says "Not Selected", this means that the other Gigwalker has completed the work and it has been approved. If you want to make the "In Review" applications disappear (and you are sure you do not want the chance to complete this gig), you can withdraw your application. Read how to do so here: What if I want to withdraw my application?
